Breezy backyard Ottawa wedding: Lindsay + Jon

About as chill as you can get.
2020 man. It was a year.
But like so many of the amazing couples that we’ve encountered this year, Lindsay and Jon knew how to roll with the punches. Direct in their speech and approach. No-fuss, no pretentiousness, and lovers of Star Wars to boot.
Lindsay and Jon prioritized imagery of the smiling faces of their guests and couples’ photos while playing lawn games. Lindsay even stopped wearing shoes after a while.
Barefoot and carefree. 👡
What a fun day. They knew that no wedding this year was going to be perfect, but they made their wedding perfect for them.
Their ceremony took place at Jon’s parents’ backyard, complete with a big white tent, which for me is so reminiscent of Steel Magnolias, which if you haven’t seen it, is a great movie from 1989 with Julia Roberts and Dolly Parton. Julia Roberts has her wedding reception in her parents’ backyard under a giant white tent and it’s just so Southern and so good. Watch it: you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll fall in love with Dolly Parton.
But I digress. On to business.
Lindsay and Jon’s daughter got ready at a nearby hotel (Homewood Suites by Hilton) complete with beautiful window light and some positive energy. They clearly have a great relationship, a wonderful way to start life together as a family. That window light, tho.🔥
Viara really knocked those portraits out of the park. Lindsay’s a real beauty.
Then onto the backyard in Dunrobin, a lovely ceremony followed by lawn games, party snacks, and like, just a tiny bit of cosplay. But that’s later.
Despite all these wonderful things, Lindsay did have one minor disappointment - her wedding cake was not what she wanted. It was happenstance that she wasn’t able to get the cake she had envisioned, and she was content with the plainer one they’d manage to organize beforehand because she’s that kind of person. BUT…
…enter SURPRISE CAKE RESCUE. Some of Lindsay’s friends came together to decorate the cake with fresh flowers to make it the cake of her dreams. They look pretty happy with themselves and so they should be.
This was followed by some exuberant dancing, general partying, and that tiny bit of cosplay I mentioned earlier.
Lindsay and Jon safely celebrated their wedding in the warm and loving embrace of their close friends and family. All this right in the middle of a pandemic.
We’re so lucky Quirky Love got to be a part of it.
Viara’s take:
From the very first time I spoke with Lindsay (we chatted on the phone while I was pacing the hallways of a local elementary school, waiting for my kid to finish up with his basketball practice!), we connected. She was just such a no-BS person, and those people are my kind of people.
What do I mean by that? Well, she had a super modern take on her wedding, she had a strong vision about the things that were important to her, and was very relaxed with pretty much everything else. She wasn’t smitten by trends, and instead - she let her own intuition and vision guide her.
Now, I super respect that in Lindsay, but it doesn’t come naturally to everyone. Some people struggle with it. They plan their wedding to please everyone else, leaving themselves last. But, as Lindsay and Jon show us, you can honor those people who are most important to you, and yet you still don’t have to really give a frig about what the rest of the world thinks your wedding should look like.
For Jon and Lindsay, it was just about this deep love that they have for each other. Somehow that was felt during the entire day. I don’t know how to put it in words… I don’t even know when I felt it. I think it’s in the extremely easy way in which they connect with each other, how they talk to each other - not really needing to explain the whole story, but implicitly understanding each other.
Alright, I’ve rambled enough.
I wish you all the kind of deep love that requires no explanation (because none can be found).
And I hope you enjoy the photographs from this late summer wedding during Covid times. It will always remind Lindsay and Jon (and me) that so much good can come out of bad times. That good can happen EVEN in bad times, and that life is whatever we make of it. ❤️
Oh, and I nearly forgot! The Star Wars Photos! This bit was so much fun to photograph. We even set up a couple of coloured gels so that we can have this funky blue-red vibe. It was late at night, and I think it turned out fabulous!
